The Glass House
Starring: Leelee Sobieski, Stellan Skarsgard, Diane Lane, Trevor Morgan, and Bruce Dern
Directed by: Daniel Sackheim
Synopsis: After they are orphaned by a fatal car accident, a 16-year old girl and her 11-year brother are sent to live with their godparents, Terry and Erin Glass. But their new guardians aren't what they seem as they force the kids to share a tiny bedroom and cut them off from society. As it turns out, the kids are worth $4 million and it becomes evident that its the money the Glass want and they'll do anything to get it. As loan sharks haunt Terry and Erin's heroine addiction spins out of control, the tension builds quickly, and it becomes a game of cat and mouse as the kids plan their escape.
My thoughts: This was a smart (but predictable) Hitchcockian-style thriller. The film has no real twists and turns, but plays on feelings of entrapment, helplessness, and paranoia instead. If anything, this is a nice showcase of Sobieski's talent.
Score: 7 out of 10
